ALLERGIES
Considering the different types of allergies, our doctors need to try to figure out whether your dog suffers from one or multiple allergens. This can be a longer process; initial symptoms (skin/ear infections or itchiness) need to be treated first and then the underlying allergies need to be considered and addressed.
FOOD ALLERGIES & INHALED ALLERGIES:
These allergies can present differently and have levels of intensity ranging from slight itchiness to full-blown skin infections with hairloss. Food allergies generally cause havoc with the skin and ears. Inhaled allergies can be seasonal or an animal can have problems during multiple seasons.
FLEA ALLERGY:
This is flea allergy dermatitis - it is very common in dogs and cats. It is caused by the saliva from a flea as it bites; this is an indication of an allergy even if there are no or few fleas actually visible! If a dog or cat is flea allergic ONE bite will cause it to be uncomfortable for 2 weeks.
